Church Meetings

The Church meeting is where the membership of the local Church (see membership page) gather together to make decisions about every part of the Church's life. It is not a democracy gathering to find out what the majority of the members want, rather they meet to discuss various aspects in the light of Gods word, in order to realize what God would want them to do in various situations. A successful Church members Meeting values and listens to the Word of God and is guided by the Spirit of God.

What Issues Concern The Church Meeting?:-

The Church Meeting should not be cluttered up with issues that can be delegated to Deacons, property Stewards or other responsible people, unless of course a large amount of finance is involved. Some of the most important issues that the Church Meeting will need to consider is in regard to its own leadership. e.g. the calling of a minister, the election of deacons (and elders for those church's who have them).
There are many other tasks within the Church which would not fall into the role of any of these offices mentioned, so the meeting would seek Gods guidance in recognizing who in the fellowship would have the 'gifts' to best fulfil those tasks. It also needs to be aware of needs within the Church fellowship, and also within the community around them, so that they can pray and become aware of how they might help the needy and bring Gods Word to the people.
Though the Church is affiliated to 'The Baptist Union of Great Britain', it does not come under the authority of the Baptist Union. In fact in its Constitution the Baptist Union states ...
"The basis of this Union is:- 'That our Lord & Saviour  Jesus Christ God manifest in the flesh,is the sole  and absolute authority in all matters pertaining to faith  & practice, as revealed in the Holy Scriptures, and that  each Church has liberty under the guidance of the  Holy Spirit to interpret & administer His laws"'.
So the authority within each local Church comes from the Church Members Meeting, where together we seek to discover what God would have us do.
